Bio: Christa M. Miller

Christa M. Miller is a writer based in northern New England. Her stories have appeared in Spinetingler, A Cruel World, Muzzle Flash, Powder Burn Flash, and Flash Pan Alley, and are forthcoming from Out of the Gutter, Demolition, and Mouth Full of Bullets. She has completed her first novel, for which she is seeking representation.

Apples and Trees

What kind of bullshit was “Take Your Kid to Work” day? Jerry Fry swore that if he ever met the paper-pusher who’d dreamt up that faggoty excuse for a teacher’s holiday, he’d make the prick lick his balls. Lick ‘em after he’d been driving this piece of shit delivery van all day with no air conditioning.

Jerry flicked his smoke out the window and concentrated on the potholes and roadtrash, the chop-shops and brick factories, a low-flying Cessna in the clear blue sky. Anything to avoid looking at the boy in the passenger seat. The sight of Paul made his stomach hurt, the kind of hurt no antacid could touch.

Call for seasonal stories

I have no objection to publishing seasonally-inappropriate stories (like, say, a blizzard-intensive story in July). It’s a shout-out to Shred’s readers down under. And I firmly believe a good story is a good story, regardless of when it’s published or read.

Having said that, in a couple months Holiday Season™ will be upon us.
