Call for seasonal stories

I have no objection to publishing seasonally-inappropriate stories (like, say, a blizzard-intensive story in July). It’s a shout-out to Shred’s readers down under. And I firmly believe a good story is a good story, regardless of when it’s published or read.

Having said that, in a couple months Holiday Season™ will be upon us. If you have any holiday-themed stories, please include “Submission: Special” in the subject line of your e-mail (and otherwise follow the standard guidelines). For Shred’s purposes, “holiday” is anything from Halloween to Thanksgiving to Hanukkah to Christmas to Boxing Day to Kwanzaa to Hogmanay to Chinese New Year…you get the idea.

(And yeah, there are holidays year-round, but some of the ones that pop up most often in stories occur within a somewhat narrow window of time. I still want to read your kickass Lughnasadh story; I just want to receive it under the standard guidelines. For that matter, I’ll still want to read the Christmas story you wind up finishing in January, and if I want to publish it I won’t make you wait until the following December.)

I’ll publish these holiday-centric stories at an approximately appropriate time. It’s just a bonus to writers who are on the ball and have written their holiday stories several months in advance. Also, I’d be particularly interested in reading cross-genre stories for Halloween: crime and the supernatural go together like caramel and apples.
