In the Pocket

He strode down the street with his cell phone pressed to his ear, his free hand gesturing wildly as he spoke. I could tell his dark blue suit was expensive due to its cut and how it hung on his shoulders which were pulled back in perfect posture. Most people wouldn’t notice it, but the suit coat swung differently on his left side as he walked.

His face was tan with a perfect shave and his hair appeared recently cut. He continued to jabber into his cell phone and ignored beautiful woman after beautiful woman as they passed him on the street. I imagined he wouldn’t have to chase them; it would probably be the other way around. If only one word could describe the man, it would be confidence. He was perfect.

The Inspector

Like many bad days, this one was starting late. Gonzalo was scheduled to leave the station house and head home in fifteen minutes. His relief had already come in and Mari had called to say dinner was nearly done. Instead of finishing up his paperwork for the day, however, he was listening to someone on the phone, running his free hand through his hair and wishing he was one of those sheriffs who could leave well enough alone. Or at least that the deputy who was relieving him were more experienced and able to do things on his own rather than still learning the job.
